Understanding Energy in an innovative way through EnergyStats

Pristina, July 20, 2022 – All those who intend to learn and understand more about the Energy sector in Kosovo will have this opportunity through the integrated application – EnergyStats.

EnergyStats was launched on Wednesday at the premises of ICK in Kosovo, after several months of work by the organization Woman in Data Kosova in partnership with ICK and with the support of Millennium Foundation Kosovo (MFK) and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

The platform was presented by Metihe Kastrati, co-founder and executive director of Woman in Data Kosova, who explained to the audience – civil society activists, representatives of startups, donors, and the media – the process of building the application, but also the collection of analytical data as and its purpose.

Kastrati explained that all the data collected on the platform are official data of the Office of the General Energy Regulator in Kosovo, and are divided into two main options: data for learning/reading and those for analysis. In the first option, she explained that users will have the opportunity to access information sources, about the Energy sector, but also concrete demonstrations through the visual presentation – educational videos – about their understanding but also the use of the Tesco application, to raise awareness of applications developed in the past and how to use them. Kastrati emphasized that they did not want to duplicate something existing in EnergyStats but to offer something new.

“There is a lot of data about the Energy sector, but the problem has been that these data have not been structured in such a way that they can be used and understood by everyone. Meanwhile, the data in EenrgyStats can be easily read with basic logical and mathematical knowledge, regardless of profile or age”, said Kastrati.

In the analytical part, users will have access to infographics that present the indicators of the Energy market.

So, there is a variety of data, which is a reasonable basis of study for all those who are interested in understanding more about Energy in Kosovo.

“Using these for education, awareness raising and therefore behavioral changes that directly affect better energy management, but at the same time to encourage activism in this sector. By providing analytical data, we enable citizens, media, civil society, and anyone interested, to explore further through information and find more suitable forms for the necessary changes in the endangered Energy sector”, Kastrati explained.

EnergyStats is an application, that collects data about energy in Kosovo and analyzes and presents them in a visual form to help suppliers or consumers, and various organizations analyze, monitor, and optimize the main performance indicators related to energy, such as production, consumption, load, import and export, price of electricity, losses and production of renewable energy.

In a way, EnergyStats summarizes all the analytical data available regarding energy and presents them digitally and through innovative products in a visual form. As such, in addition to analytical data, EnergyStats also helps in education and awareness, providing learning opportunities about energy in Kosovo also forms of better management of it within an economy, whether family or business.

Every piece of information, be it numbers, graphs, statistics, percentages, etc. tells us something. It has a back story that we can use to create thoughts or behavior on specific issues.

“We aim to tell you as much as possible about the Energy you use through the integrated Electricity application, integrated into an easy-to-use application. And we do this by providing you with a variety of information. All this information is collected, analyzed, and presented based on official data of the Electricity Regulatory Office in Kosovo (ZRE)”, explained Kastrati.

The EnergyStats project is part of the Energy Dig Data Challenge, supported by Millennium Foundation Kosovo (MFK) and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The project was implemented by Women in Data Kosovo.
